I have to say I wasn't that impressed with SL, which is why I am currently residing in Entropia, not to say that SL isn't a legitimate virtual universe, rather that it is not my kind of universe.. I agree with the first poster, that the lack of Tactile interaction is the main drawback, although the social interaction alone (minus the mind-numbing/addictive game mechanics) merit at least some participation. I have also wondered what it will be like when Virtual Reality meets MMORPGs though, it is definantly something that will be... well not something seen on this planet yet anyway.

Nikki,
I do believe that eventually, there will be no difference between virtual environments and real ones. Experience will eventually be physical -- not even sensory. It will bypass our senses, and directly stimulate brain centers. Have you read much into the concept of singularity and Biosingularity?

I've heard that Second Life is very difficult not intuitive to get around. But there's something disturbing to me about the idea of becoming completely immersed in the virtual world. Namely, the lack of truly tactile experience. In any virtual world... experience is for the most part in your mind. I do like your questions. They bring up excellent points about human interaction with Virt. Environments. What might make virtual worlds more appeal to people other than making it easier and more usable to participate?
